As we practice our faith today, I am going to continue to explore the lives of others who had to WAIT. As we explore their lives, we will get to see what God can teach us through them because waiting is hard!
John Wesley lived in the 1700s and was the founder of the Methodist movement. While he was traveling from America to England by boat, he had to endure a severe storm. In waiting out this storm, he was unsure whether he would have the privilege of living thought the storm or not and he was legitimately scared.
Also onboard that boat were a group of Moravian Christians who stood on the deck of the boat, sang hymns and were, by Wesley’s account, unafraid.
As it turned out, this experience let Wesley know that there was a deeper faith that God has to offer than he was living into and he went in search of that faith. In God’s perfect time, Wesley had a God Experience that he described as his heart being strangely warmed and he was filled with faith. This was same kind of faith which caused the Moravians to be unafraid on the boat.
Throughout the rest of his life, Wesley worked diligently to help others experience God the way he had.
As you wait through this storm of the coronavirus, is your faith strong enough to give you peace during this storm or is there a greater faith that God yet has for you? If you need more faith, I promise you that God is nearer than you think and He will fill you if you ask.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9
…In the eye of the storm, you remain in control. In the middle of the war, you guard my soul. You alone are the anchor when my sails are torn. Your love surrounds me, in the eye of the storm…
Lyrics from “Eye of the Storm” by Ryan Stevenson
